Spoofing Challenge

The finalists of the SpeechXRays Spoofing Challenged organized on March 28th at the National Library of Physics, Magurele, presented their spoofing strategies in front of a jury presided by Claude BAUZOU from IDEMIA, coordinator of the SpeechXRays project. The five finalists were Denis Nichita, Sebastian Micluta-Campeanu, Alexandra Serban, Alexandru Michire, and Luca Mihailescu, all students of the Faculty of Physics University of Bucharest. The jury ofthe SpeechXRays Spoofing Challenged way impressed by the creativity and determination of the participants who tried to crack the system in countless ways, despite the timeframe of the challenge, which limited the attacks on the system to 48h. The participants in the SpeechXRays Spoofing Challenged proposed viable attacks vectors and even looked into how the spoofing countermeasures were engineered. None of the participants was able to fully spoof the system, but the finalists achieved partial success on either voice or face. Following a long deliberation, the jury of the SpeechXRays Spoofing Challenged awarded the Best Spoofing Award to Denis Nichita, while Sebastian Micluta-Campeanu, Alexandra Serban, Alexandru Michire, and Luca Mihailescu were each awarded a Honorable Mention.

Update: The deadline for the SpeechXRays Spoofing Challenge is extended to March 28th 8 AM and all participants in the SpeechXRays Spoofing Challenge will present their results in the public event organized on March 28th, starting 9 AM, at the National Physics Library in Magurele.

To participate in the SpeechXRays Spoofing Challenge you are requested to download the License Request from here, execute it and send the resulting license file to speechxrays[at]nipne.ro by Monday, March 25th, 10 AM, indicating your name and affiliation (name of university, faculty, year of study, and specialization).

The participants in the SpeechXRays Spoofing Challenge will receive on Tuesday March 26th, 10 AM, the link to the SpeechXRays application along with the license, as well as the Spoofing Rules. The SpeechXRays application requires a laptop with a functional microphone and video camera and Windows 10. Each user will try to spoof the SpeechXRays application in accordance to the Spoofing Rules and send his results (logs, description of the spoofing strategy, etc.) to speechxrays[at]nipne.ro by Wednesday, March 27th 10 AM. Following this submission, the Jury of the SpeechXRays Spoofing Challenge will evaluate the spoofing strategies and rank them. All participants are invited on March 28th at the National Physics Library in Magurele where the best 10 ranked participants will present their spoofing strategies to the Jury of the SpeechXRays Spoofing Challenge and the public. Following the presentations, the Jury will award one Best Spoofing Award and four Honorable mentions.

The SpeechXRays Spoofing Challenge will take place on March 26th – March 28th, as part of the "SpeechXRays. Multi-channel biometrics combining acoustic and machine vision analysis of speech, lip movement and face" project funded from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme, under Grant Agreement no 653386 (http://www.speechxrays.eu). On March 28th the top ten ranked participants will present their spoofing strategy in a public event organized at The National Physics Library in Magurele. The spoofing challenge is opened to all Bachelor and Master students enrolled at a university in Bucharest and is organized by the Horia Hulubei National Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering (www.nipne.ro) jointly with the Association of Physics Students of University of Bucharest.

The jury of the spoofing challenge consists of members of the SpeechXRays project and one representative of the Association of Physics Students of University of Bucharest, and is headed by Claude Bauzou from IDEMIA France, coordinator of the SpeechXRays project. All participants at the spoofing challenge will receive an attendance diploma and there will be five other prizes, a smartphone for the Best Spoofing Award and a set of Bluetooth earphones for each of the four Honorable Mentions.

The details of the SpeechXRays Spoofing Challenge, including the detailed spoofing rules, will be published shortly on http://www.speechxrays.nipne.ro.
