February 5th, 2019

On Tuesday February 5th, 2019, Horia Hulubei National Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering (IFIN–HH) organized the event "SpeechXRays: The first Romanian-calibrated biometric solution", which took place in the Conference Hall of the Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics (ELI-NP) experimental facility of IFIN-HH. The event was organized in cooperation with Magurele High Tech Cluster (MHTC) and included a presentation of the current status of the SpeechXRays project and the road ahead, delivered by Claude Bauzou (IDEMIA), a survey of the three uses cases presented by Alexandru Nicolin (IFIN-HH), a presentation of the architecture and novel technical solutions of the SpeechXRays solution, as well as a hands-on session, both by Iacob Crucianu (SIVECO), and a round table on identity and security in the digital world moderated by D. Seuleanu (MHTC). The event also included an official announcement of the spoofing challenge that will be organized in Magurele end of March, jointly with the Association of Physics Students of University of Bucharest, and ended with a visit of the ELI-NP facility.

Given the novelty of the SpeechXRays solution, which includes the first voice biometric solution natively developed for the Romanian language, the event had more than 60 attendees, including researchers from various institutes in Magurele and Bucharest, representatives of private companies interested in cybersecurity at large, students interested in the spoofing challenge that was presented at the event, etc.

The event was covered by two national TV stations (Antena 1 at Observator, see the recording here, and Prima TV at Focus, see the recording here), as well as Radio Romania Cultural (click here for the recording).
